IFC rounded off the Spring 2018 PIBFAL season with a hard fought win against a hard working and energetic J&J side to confirm their Runners Up position. IFC also finished as the league’s top scorers and meanest defence.
The first half was notable for the battle between J&J’s left winger Junior and IFC’s right back Salah with both players showing blistering pace, no little amount of skill and full commitment.
J&J took the lead on 15 minutes when a Junior cross come shot went over Porazil into the far corner of the IFC goal. 0-1.
J&J had a free kick soon afterwards and the Ronaldo-esque preparation and chest out stance had everyone on their toes in anticipation. The daisy cutter that followed and trickled wide was a let down. Brown was unlucky to see a long shot flash wide of the upright for IFC. Frederiksen was also unlucky with a close effort that hit the side netting.
IFC were level on 35 minutes when Martinez played a ball down the left wing to Sam Roberts who flashed a brilliant shot into the far bottom corner past the J&J keeper. 1-1.
IFC’s recent injury curse continued when Jalloul was taken to hospital after an elbow in the throat after 50 minutes. Sellers was through on goal 10 minutes later when he pulled up with a torn hamstring. Evers then used up all 3 IFC subs when he came off after 65 minutes with a pulled thigh.
Chances were few and far between in a 2nd half that the defences dominated. Sellers’ overhead kick flew over the bar after a backwards Fanthorpe header/shoulder and Evers had a curling shot brilliantly tipped over by the J&J keeper. J&J also had a couple of good chances but Porazil was equal to them.
On 82 minutes Mahir Salah intercepted a short J&J pass in his own half and, encouraged by the shouts of the IFC bench, went on a run from his own half before sliding the ball past the J&J keeper. 2-1.
IFC could have made the win certain after 88 minutes but Roberts’ shot was tipped round the post by the J&J keeper. From the resultant corner Brown fired over from inside the 6 years box.
FT: IFC 2-1 J&J
