1st half:
IFC started brightly with Salah, Pagliacci and Philbin looking lively. After 10 minutes a long ball over the top by DHL saw their young pacey Mexican forward outsprint the slow and ageing Sellers and Lowe to open the scoring. IFC equalized soon afterwards after a meandering Frederiksen run saw him ghost past 4 opponents before releasing PHILBIN who finished calmly. DHL hit the post soon afterwards. A Moreaux corner also hit the post.
IFC kept on giving the ball away when in possession although Philbin had a chance to put IFC ahead but shot wide after great work by Salah and Tom Sellers on the right. DHL went ahead again on 30 minutes after a great bit of skill by the corner flag that bamboozled the IFC defence was followed by a good cross and a good finish. Kazmierczak also made a good save from a DHL long shot.
Just before half time DHL increased their lead with another long ball over the top that saw their young pacey Mexican forward outsprint the slow and ageing Moreaux and Lowe to finish calmly.
HT: DHL 3-1 IFC
2nd Half:
IFC dominated the second half and DHL’s keeper made numerous saves including 3 that were described as ‘world class’ after the game by the IFC players that he saved from! DHL played the whole half as if they were protecting a 1 goal lead with 5 minutes to go in a cup final with desperate long clearances and time wasting by the goalie. It was unnecessary as they always looked dangerous on the counter attack. Tom Sellers saw the DHL keeper make a great save from a snap shot before DHL broke and increased their lead on 55 minutes.
REPPIN pulled one back for IFC with a well struck shot on 65 minutes and then saw a superb effort from a free kick expertly saved by the DHL keeper. The keeper made another great save from a Tom Sellers shot shortly afterwards. DHL went 5-2 ahead on 75 minutes after punishing some sloppy passing by IFC. The Spanish midfielder was offside but it was such a sweet finish that the referee awarded the goal to reward quality! PAGLIACCI scored a lovely goal in the 82nd minute (5-3) after great work by Salah, Tom Sellers and Philbin.
